JESUS CHRIST Obeyed the Sabbath Commandment even in HIS DEATH: What lessons do we learn?
MATTHEW 28
"Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb" Matthew 28:1
REFLECTIONS
In the days of JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth, THE SABBATH was on Saturday, the seventh day. Sunday was the first day of the week. Evidently, JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth had been crucified on a Friday, the sixth day of the week. (That is why we have GOOD FRIDAY). Further, Joseph of Arimathea, had gone to Pontius Pilate on Friday to request to be given the body of JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth so that he can put JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth in the tomb before THE SABBATH DAY began at sunset Friday.
Certainly, even in death JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth completely observed THE SABBATH DAY and kept it HOLY by not doing any physical work. There is no dispute that between sunset of Friday, sixth day to sunset on Saturday, seventh day, JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth lay buried in the tomb Joseph of Arimathea had prepared for his own burial.
So the big question remains, "was it a coincidence that the Romans authorities and the Jewish religious leaders had to crucify JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth on a Friday, the sixth day, that causing JESUS to obey the all important Fourth Commandment, or was it a DIVINE APPOINTMENT?" Why for example did they not crucify JESUS on a Monday, second day or even on a Wednesday, the fourth day? The answer to this question, I can say without a shadow of doubt that we will definitely know when we get to heaven.
Luke 23:50-56 clearly records what happened,
"Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man, 51 who had not consented to their decision and action; and he was looking for the kingdom of GOD. 52 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of JESUS. 53 Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud and laid HIM in a tomb cut in stone, where no one had ever yet been laid. 54 It was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was beginning. 55 The women who had come with him from Galilee followed and saw the tomb and how his body was laid. 56 Then they returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
